What is greaseproof paper?
Greaseproof paper is a dense, low-porosity paper made by extended beating of the pulp fibres before forming. The result is a sheet whose internal pore structure resists fat and oil migration without any wax, silicone or plastic coating. It is naturally food-safe and recyclable in standard UK paper streams.
Is greaseproof paper food safe?
Yes. Greaseproof paper produced for food contact in the UK must comply with Framework Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 (retained in UK law post-Brexit) and use only printing inks listed on the EuPIA exclusion list. GMLUK migration-tests every food-contact specification before release and supplies declarations of compliance with each order.
What weights of greaseproof paper do you supply?
Standard production weights are 35 gsm, 40 gsm and 45 gsm. Heavier 60 gsm and lighter 28 gsm options are available with extended lead times. Weight is selected by application — 35 gsm for interleaving and lightweight wrap, 45 gsm for sandwich/burger wrapping where wet strength matters.
Can greaseproof paper be recycled?
Uncoated greaseproof paper is recyclable in standard UK paper streams. Recycling tolerance does drop with food contamination — heavily soiled greaseproof should go to food-waste or general waste. We offer EPR classification on every grade so you can model disposal fees accurately.
What is your minimum order quantity?
From-stock standard greaseproof paper sheets and rolls are available with no minimum. Custom-cut sheets, custom widths or made-to-spec paper start at one pallet (approximately 50,000 sheets at A4 equivalent or 50 km of standard reel). Contact our team for custom specifications.
