Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about this product
What is waxed paper used for?
Waxed paper is used wherever both grease *and* moisture barriers are needed: fish, butcher and meat wrap, sandwich and burger wrapping for hot food, soap and cosmetic interleaving, industrial slip sheets, and as a low-cost moisture-resistant packaging material. The wax coating delivers performance that uncoated greaseproof paper alone cannot.
What is the difference between waxed paper and greaseproof paper?
Greaseproof paper resists fats and oils through dense pulp structure, with no coating. Waxed paper has wax applied to one or both sides for additional moisture and grease barrier. Waxed paper is heat-sealable and water-repellent; greaseproof paper is recyclable in standard streams and oven-safe. Choose based on application — see our buyer guide for the decision tree.
Is waxed paper recyclable?
It depends on the wax. Most UK paper mills can process paraffin and PE-wax coated paper through pulpers with flotation systems, but not all. Bio-based and soy-wax variants have similar recyclability profiles. We provide EPR classification and recyclability statements for each grade so you can model end-of-life accurately.
What weights of waxed paper do you produce?
Standard grades run from 40 gsm waxed kraft up to 80 gsm waxed bond. Heavier weights are available for industrial applications. Wax coverage typically ranges from 5 gsm (light water-repellence) to 25 gsm (full moisture barrier and heat-seal capability).
Can waxed paper be printed?
Yes — but the print must precede the wax coating, not follow it. We use water-based flexographic inks on the substrate, allow full ink cure, then apply the wax coating. This produces durable, food-safe print that survives the wax overlay. Up to 6-colour pantone-matched printing is available.
